Vintage Starlets Like You've Never Seen Before 

In addition to her high profile marriage to film producer Richard D. Zanuck (Jaws, Cocoon, Driving Miss Daisy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Linda Harrison has had much success of her own in the industry. The actress, director, and producer is internationally renowned for her role in the classic science fiction film Planet of the Apes (1968). She was also in the first sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes; she also had a cameo in Tim Burton's 2001 remake. The film was a critical and commercial hit and had a total of four sequels followed between 1970 and 1973 and it also spawned two television series in 1974 and 1975. 

Pictured here is actress and singer, Susan Anton. Once named "Most Promising Faces of 1979," by Time Magazine, Susan went on to star in her own variety show, Presenting Susan Anton. Soon she went on to become a household name, appearing in films such as Goldengirl, Spring Fever, and Cannonball Run II. Anton also dons the cover of the paperback edition of Goldengirl.

As a recording artist, her biggest hit was a duet with country singer Fred Knoblock, "Killin' Time" in 1980. The record made Top 10 on the country charts and ranked in at 28 on Billboard's Hot 100. Anton has also appeared on the TV shows such as Night Court, Baywatch, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, The Larry Sanders Show, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. 

Just when you thought she couldn't possibly get any cuter, she poses with animals! Pictured here is the ever-so-charming Audrey Hepburn, laughing it up with a donkey on the set of War and Peace back in 1955. The American-Italian war drama was released in 1956 and was directed by King Vidor. Alongside Hepburn, starred Henry Fonda, Mel Ferrer, Vittorio Gassman, Herbert Lom, John Mills and Anita Ekberg, (this was one of her first breakthrough roles).

The film is based on the book by Russian author Leo Tolstoy earned Academy Awards nominations for Best Director (King Vidor), Best Cinematography, Color (Jack Cardiff) and Best Costume Design, Color (Maria De Matteis).

Pam Grier starred in a string of “blaxploitation” films back in the 1970s and was the first real female action star. Playing roles like “Foxy Brown,” “Sheba Shayne,” and “Jackie Brown” earned her the rating of second greatest female action heroine in film history.

In the late 1990s, Grier appeared in 1996 in John Carpenter's Escape from L.A. before taking on the title role in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown, which partly paid homage to her 1970s blaxploitation films). After starring in Tarantino’s film, she was nominated for numerous awards.

She appeared on Showtime's The L Word as Kit Porter, she occasionally guest-stars on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (as a recurring character), and she also had a recurring role on the hit series Smallville as villain Amanda Waller.

In the first episode, the blonde Amazon we come to know as Wonder Woman, demonstrated her exceptional skills and abilities during an Olympic-style gaming event. She ties for first with another Amazon. The tie-breaker involved the two women shooting at each other in a challenge called the "bullets and bracelets" event. The one being shot at must deflect the bullets with her bulletproof bracelets.

The tricky blonde wins…. Once she removes her disguise it's revealed to be Diana. The blond woman wins the event, superficially injuring her opponent's arm. When she is pronounced the winner and allowed to go to America.

As a twenty-year-old pin-up going by the name of Vicky Kennedy at the time, Margaret Nolan scored the role in the 1964 James Bond film, Goldfinger. While the golden girl was the goal, she ended up with a smaller role as Dink, a masseuse.

Shirley Eaton ended up getting the coveted role of the golden girl. All dipped in gold paint, donning a gold leather bikini to match. The seductive performance became the first film sequence to require clearance from British film censors.

Nolan was also ‘Grandfather’s Girl at Casino’ in The Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night. She went on to appear in British films such as Crossroads, Carry on Cowboy, Adam Adamant Lives!, Steptoe and Son, The Sweeney and Crown Court. 

Pictured here is a stunning Jaclyn Smith all dolled up as Kelly Garrett in the television series Charlie's Angels back in 1977. This is probably her best-known role, the show ran from 1976 until 1981 and she was the only original female lead to stay on the series for its full run. She even came back to make a cameo appearance in the 2003 film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

Smith had numerous film roles and miniseries over the years. She was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Film for the title role in the TV film Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (1981). She developed and launched her own brands of clothing and perfumes. 

The veteran British actress, Wanda Ventham has made numerous appearances on Doctor Who, She portrayed Jean Rock in The Faceless Ones, Thea Ransome and the Fendahl Core in Image of the Fendahl and Faroon in Time and the Rani. She remains best-known, however, for her role as Colonel Virginia Lake in the 1970s science-fiction television series UFO.

She is also the mother of actor Benedict Cumberbatch. She and actor Timothy Carlton have been married since April of 1976. The couple appeared together in the third series of BBC's Sherlock in 2014, where they played the parents of Sherlock. Which worked out great since their real-life son, Benedict Cumberbatch played Sherlock!

Pictured here is the lovely Dawn Elberta Wells on the set of the show for which she will always be most famous for, Gilligan's Island. In it, she played the charming but mysterious Mary Ann Summers. A farm girl from the town of Winfield, Kansas whos history before getting stranded on the island is sketchy at best. She’s portrayed as a typical "girl next door" but not too much is known about the mysterious country bumpkin’s previous life. Her life on the island is pretty domestic, she does most of the laundry and cooking and her coconut cream pies are legendary. Dawn Wells and Tina Louise are the last surviving regular cast members from the series.

Pictured here is the legendary scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis dominated the horror scene of the ‘70s. With films like Prom Night, Terror Train, The Fog, and John Carpenter's Halloween. It wasn’t until Trading Spaces in 1983 that she started getting notoriety outside the horror genre. The role also earned her a BAFTA award as best supporting actress. She went on to work on A Fish Called Wanda and was nominated for a BAFTA as Best Leading Actress.

In 1994 she won a Golden Globe for True Lies and hasn't stopped working since. She also reprised her role as Lori strode in Halloween II, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection, she also had a voice role in Halloween III: Season of the Witch. It has recently been confirmed that Curtis will be Lori Strode once again, in Halloween 2018. 

Here's Ann Margret on the set of Viva Las Vegas back in 1964. The Hollywood bombshell was often referred to her as the 'female Elvis’, for her sexy, throaty singing voice had the public and her love for motorcycles earned her a daredevil reputation. She had a seven-year film contract from 20th Century Fox which landed her in the co-star seat with big names like Jack Nicholson, John Wayne, and Elvis. As they worked together, Ann-Margret and Elvis discovered they share many things in common and soon their relationship became romantic. Elvis and close friends all confirmed that aside from Elvis Presley’s family, Ann-Margret became the most important woman in the King’s life. Inevitably, though, it had to end.

Pictured here is a young Catherine Bach in the early '80s. She's donning a pair of pink shorts that are perfect for her iconic character Daisy Duke from the hit series Dukes of Hazzard.

Originally, the producers were looking for more of a Dolly Parton lookalike to fill the role (which Bach was not) but with those gams it didn't matter, she was hired on the spot anyway.

Bach went on to appear in 145 episodes of the (now) classic comedy/western opposite John Schneider and Tom Wopat. It went off-air in the mid-1980s, but alas, The Dukes of Hazzard was revived for a film version in 2000. So Catherine, John, and Tom were reunited in the film called The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood!

Here we have the Queen of Disco herself, La Donna Adrian Gaines, or as she is known professionally, Donna Summer. The five-time Grammy Award winner came into prominence in the 1970s and was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the United States Billboard 200 chart in addition to charting four number-one singles in the U.S. all within a 12-month period. She claimed a top 40 hit every year between 1975 and 1984 and has sold over 140 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. 

Actress Cathrine Bach is responsible for Daisy Duke’s attire. The early idea was to have her dressed in a tight white turtleneck, a pair of go-go boots, and a poodle skirt... can you even picture that being Daisy Duke's iconic look? Neither could Bach, she went ahead and threw together a T-shirt, a pair of cut-off denim shorts, with some high heels, and the rest is history. The television series aired on CBS from January 26, 1979, to February 8, 1985. Interestingly enough, while starring on The Dukes of Hazzard, Bach had her legs insured for $1,000,000. 

Pictured here is “The Back”, Miss Vikki Dougan, the 1950s ‘It girl’ who inspired the iconic cartoon sex bomb Jessica Rabbit… As made evident by those scandalously low cut, custom-made dresses that hugged her curvaceous figure just right, it’s easy to see why it was said: “Vikki Dougan makes the best exits in town.” It was Hollywood publicist, Milton Weiss who originated Dougan’s (now) iconic look. His first move was having three expensive, backless dresses custom made for her — then he tilted her “The Back”. She would slink around the room provocatively at previews and parties and eventually appeared in Playboy (a 1957 issue). 

Raquel Welch is just radiating a brilliant bohemian goddess vibe in this gorgeous photograph by Franco Rubartelli. This particular photoshoot was for Vogue Italia and it certainly ended up being one of her best! 

Welch may have been one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1960s and 1970s but she also broke the mold of what it meant to be a sex symbol. She was this strong, bronzed, exotic looking brunette in a sea of blonde bombshells. She was destined to stand out and destined to become a Hollywood Starlet. She helped change America’s view on sexuality by portraying strong female characters at a time where women in submissive roles were desirable.  

Sheena Shirley Easton is a singer and actress who first came into the public eye in an episode of The Big Time: Pop Singer, which was the first British musical reality TV show. 

The episode followed Sheena as she attempted to get a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. The came Easton's first two singles, "Modern Girl" and "Morning Train (Nine to Five)", both of which, entered the UK Top Ten. She was the first UK female artist to appear twice in the same Top Ten since Ruby Murray. She went on to become one of the most successful British female performers of the 1980s.

Here is a stunning photograph of Actress, Producer, and Author Senta Berger. She has received numerous award nominations for her acting talents in theatre, film, and television. She has taken home three Bambi Awards, two Romys, an Adolf Grimme Award, both a Deutscher and a Bayerischer Fernsehpreis, and a Goldene Kamera. She co-starred in films alongside some of the most impressive leading men in Hollywood of the time including, Charlton Heston, Dean Martin, Richard Harris, Kirk Douglas, John Wayne and Yul Brynner. Berger married director and producer Michael Verhoeven back in 1966 and they have two children together: actors Simon and Luca Verhoeven.

Here's a great picture of actress Natalie Wood standing on the shoulders of actor Steve Rowland at the Thalians Beach Ball back in 1956. Apparently, the two were on their war to a game of ‘Chicken’. That ear-to-ear grin on Natalie’s face probably had a lot to do with the view–bet she felt like she was on top of the world! Standing at 5’3, Natalie was always very self-conscious about her height and always preferred to wear shoes with 6-inch stiletto heels. Obviously, 6-inch heels won't get her very far on the sand... guess Steve Rowland will just have to do. 

Early In Gray's career she starred in multiple television commercials. In the 1970s, she appeared in numerous TV series, but her career really took off when she landed the role of Sue Ellen Ewing in 1978. She maintained this role up until 1989 when she left to pursue other acting roles, most notably the 1991 film, 'Oscar' opposite Sylvester Stallone.

Sporting a tight one piece and armed with a bullwhip, the provocative thief had quite the love-hate relationship with Gotham’s hero. It was Newmar who was responsible for modifying the now-iconic Catwoman costume. She wore the belt at the hips instead of the waist, to accentuate her hourglass figure.

The costume is now at home in the Smithsonian Institution, Julie Newmar herself, went on to establish an immensely successful career as an actress and an advocate of LGBT rights.

Pictured here is Faye Dunaway in a scene from Bonnie and Clyde back in 1967. The iconic biographical crime film is considered a landmark in cinema history. It represents the dawn of “New Hollywood” as it broke many cinematic taboos. It’s also credited with prompting other filmmakers to be more open with depicting sex and violence in their work.

Stars Warren Beatty (Clyde Barrow) and Faye Dunaway (Bonnie Parker) had a real-life love affair, that was “torrid” to say the least. Their affair may have ended long ago but the two are still bickering with each other all these years later. They were both mortified to find they were presenting at the 2017 Oscars together and argued the whole time.

Irish-born actress and singer was famous for her fiercely passionate roles and fiery red hair, not to mention her creative alliance with Western Director John Ford. She worked with Ford on numerous films along with longtime friend John Wayne. She was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

She co-starred alongside Charles Laughton in Alfred Hitchcock's Jamaica Inn in 1939. Then moved to Hollywood the same year to co-star with him again in the production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. After that, she was given a contract by RKO Pictures and had a long, successful career as "The Queen of Technicolor".

Some of her more famous films include; Miracle on 34th Street, Rio Grande, The Wings of Eagles, The Parent Trap, and The Rare Breed. She retired from show business in 1971, but not before starring with Wayne one last time in Big Jake. She re-emerged 20 years later to appear with John Candy in Only the Lonely (1991).

Pictured here is the iconic beauty, Rita Hayworth posing in a publicity still for the 1946 Film Noir Gilda. For which she is most remembered for. In it, Rita Hayworth played the title role. The plot centers around a small-time gambler who is hired to work in a Buenos Aires casino. He learns that his ex-lover is now married to his employer… awkward. Hayworth was the embodiment of Hollywood glamor, born to be a star. .She rose to prominence during the 1940s and quickly became one of the era's top stars. She appeared in a total of 61 films over 37 years. The press coined the term "love goddess" for her and labeled her the most glamorous screen idol of the 1940s. She was the top pin-up girl during World War II as far as GIs were concerned.

Here we have a very stressed Jessica Lange in the grip of King Kong back in the 1976 monster film. This was the launching point from which this (now) megastar took off. It was a (then) modern remake of the 1933 film of the same name. Of all three of the King Kong movies, the 1976 version is the only one to feature the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building. It was a commercial hit, in fact, it was the fifth highest-grossing film of 1977 and it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It was also nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Sound.

Here is a young, bright-eyed Angie Dickinson back in 1962. The actress began her career in various television anthologies back in the 50’s before landing her breakthrough role in "Gun the Man Down" (1956) and the 1959 Western Rio Bravo, for which she received the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year.

Over the course of her six-decade career, Dickinson has appeared in over 50 films in addition to her television work. Her resume boasts big titles such as Ocean's 11 (1960), Jessica (1962), Point Blank (1967), Sabrina (1995), and Pay it Forward (2000) to name a few. From 1974 to 1978, she starred as Sergeant Leann "Pepper" Anderson in the crime series Police Woman. A role for which she received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama. She also earned three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Here is the Shakespearean actress, Helen Mirren back in the late 1960s. She is one of the few to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting: Academy Award, Emmy Award, and Tony Award. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2007, (after two previous nominations), for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. She won an Olivier Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Audience in 2013, in which she also portrayed Elizabeth II. Then she took home the Tony Award for Best Actress for a Play in 2015 for her Broadway performance in the play. Mirren has gone on to win three consecutive BAFTA Awards for Best Actress, several Emmy Awards, and in 2003, she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for Services to the Performing Arts.

Pfeiffer's early acting career consisted of bit parts in films that didn’t achieve much critical or box office success: Falling in Love Again (1980) with Susannah York, The Hollywood Knights (1980), and the Curse of the Dragon Queen (1981).

Pfeiffer will be the first to tell you she had a long way to go, in fact, what she later said of her early work: "I needed to learn how to act... in the meantime, I was playing bimbos and cashing in on my looks."

She didn’t start to see much growth until she was cast in Scarface (1983) as cocaine-addicted trophy wife Elvira Hancock. A role which she almost lost out on because of her involvement in the flop of a film Grease 2.

Brigitte Bardot must hold some kind of record for most "icon" categories... Fashion icon, sex-icon, film-icon, beauty-icon... she even an icon in the realm of animal rights. She can sing, dance, and capture artistic photographs. So much talent fitted into one small framed beauty. 

The French artist was the original blonde bombshell. Brigitte Bardot’s style, grace, and eventually her passion for animal rights heavily influenced culture as a whole. Her hair, makeup, and fashion sense have, and continues to be emulated across the world. Bardot even has a signature pose that many models have tried to reproduce in shoots over the years. 

It's the iconic Brigitte Bardot cuddling up with quite the cluster of adorable baby chicks back in 1956. This stunning beauty is best remembered for her modeling (for obvious reasons) but Brigitte Bardot was an actress, dancer, and during the 1960s, she recorded hits with the French vocalist/songwriter/lounge-man Serge Gainsbourg and released her own albums like Brigitte Bardot Sings and Special Bardot. The multitalented sex-icon had that je ne sais quoi that had even The Beatles idolizing her. She is credited with popularizing the bikini and for putting San Tropics on the map as a hotspot for everyone who’s anyone to be seen vacationing. 

Queen of the "Hollywood Starlets", Marilyn Monroe is one of the biggest pop-icons in history. Although the Presidential mistress was often typecast as a “dumb blonde”, she went on to become the embodiment of sexuality in the 1950s. She was beautiful, stylish, and died far too young and under suspicious circumstances.

Despite her seemingly overt outgoing nature as a woman, she was actually very shy as a child and still suffered from deep bouts of insecurity as an adult. She was such a nervous child that she developed a stutter, which she never fully got rid of. She was eventually able to mask it thanks to dictation lessons provided by studio vocal coaches.

The lovely Victoria Principal will probably always be best known for her role as Pamela Ewing in the soap Opera Dallas (from 1978 to 1987). 

In 1974, she famously cut off all her gorgeous hair for an audition because she wanted to look more like the character “Rosa” in the disaster film Earthquake. So she chopped off her locks, dyed them black, and showed up to the audition with an afro. Good thing she got the part! 

After that, it was on to Aaron Spelling’s television series, Fantasy Island. Finally, she landed her most popular role on Dallas which earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 1983. She went on to star in and co-produce various made-for-television movies, in addition to launching her own beauty product line. 

Here is a provocative photograph of the talented and uniquely beautiful Bernadette Peters. This shot is from when she played Marie Kimble Johnson in the 1979 comedy, The Jerk. The film was directed by Carl Reiner and written by Steve Martin, Carl Gottlieb, and Michael Elias. This was also Steve Martin's first starring role in a feature film! Peters starred opposite Steve Martin in a role that he wrote specifically for her and the film made comedy history. The Jerk has been long praised as one of Martin's best comedic efforts, and as one of the funniest films ever made. Not too shabby!

Pictured here is actress Cassandra Peterson all decked out as horror hostess, Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Elvira is Cassandra’s most famous character. Prior to that she was a showgirl, (who dated Elvis briefly) and had dancing and modeling gigs.

As the host of the weekly horror movie presentation, “Elvira's Movie Macabre,” Cassandra quickly achieved genre icon status. Between her revealing, gothic appearance, quirky personality, and Valley girl-type speech, her rise in popularity came as no surprise.

The late 1980s and 1990s brought a string of Elvira-themed comics and computer games. There are also two Elvira-themed pinball machines and she was also featured in the PlayStation3 game “Pain” in 2007.

Here’s a still of the beautiful Olivia Hussey back in 1968. It was after she theatre appearance in London that Hussey was then chosen to play Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet as well. This classic role is what gained her international recognition and earned her a Golden Globe and the David di Donatello Award!

In 1974, she was cast in the lead role of Jess, in the cult-classic horror film Black Christmas. Other notable projects include the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, Death on the Nile, Psycho IV: The Beginning, and Stephen King's It.

In 1991 Hussey married rock musician David Glen Eisley, and in 1993 she gave birth to her daughter, India Eisley. India, is now an actress as well, her first major role was in the American teen drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008).

There’s just no topping this legendary Hollywood bad girl; actress, singer, and dancer Ann Margret. The onscreen chameleon has been the sweet brunette, the foxy redhead, and the blonde bombshell.

The Italian screen goddess Sophia Loren began an affair with Cary Grant while filming The Pride and the Passion together in 1957.

She then went on to co-star in Houseboat with Grant in 1958, a film Grant's wife Betsy Drake wrote the original script for! Grant originally intended to have his wife to star with him, but then arranged for Loren to take her place. He had the script had rewritten, a script for which Drake did not receive credit!

But the affair ended bitterly causing problems on the set of Houseboat. Grant wanted to continue their relationship but Loren agreed to marry Carlo Ponti, instead.

Here we have the stunning actress, singer, and author Tina Louise when she was in the Warrior Empress back in 1960. 

She will always be best known for her role as Ginger Grant on Gilligan's Island from 1964 to 1967. Ginger Grant was the sparkling diva of the island, constantly dressing glamorously and name-dropping as if fame and social status mattered while stranded on an island. 

Tina Louise landed her breakthrough role in 1958 with the film God's Little Acre, for which she took home a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year. Louise had many starring roles in big Hollywood films like The Trap, The Hangman, The Stepford Wives, Day of the Outlaw, and For Those Who Think Young.

It follows three crime-fighting women who work for a private detective agency owned by a mysterious billionaire named Charlie Townsend (who directs his angels via speakerphone).

The original cast was Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and Jaclyn Smith in the leading roles, with David Doyle co-starring as a sidekick. After Fawcett left the show, Cheryl Ladd stepped in. Later additions were Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts. 

Victoria Principal began her acting career in TV commercials at the age of five. At the time this photo was taken 1968, she was graduating from South Dade Senior High School and soon enrolled at Miami-Dade Community College to study medicine. 

Sadly, she was seriously injured by a drunk driver months before completing her first year of studies, and spent months in recovery and fell behind in school. Faced with the prospect of taking her first year of school all over again, she moved to New York City to pursue her acting career. She spent some time in Europe, studying privately with Jean Scott at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in London, then it was off to Los Angeles in 1971.

Yes, that's right, once upon a time, Olenna Tyrell was this young, glamorous, smokey-eyed beauty who was most famous for her role in the 1965 “Avengers” series. Diana Rigg was famous, audacious, and often described as the most desirable woman in the world in her heyday. Her love life was just as public as her award-winning career. Shamelessly dating a much older (married man), and boldly stating she had no desire "to be respectable".

It wasn’t until her performance as Cesira in “Vittorio De Sica's Two Women” that Loren' talents were fully recognized. The role ended up earning her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1962. This made her the first artist to win an Oscar for a foreign-language performance. She has worked hard to maintain her unique beauty over six decades in the entertainment industry, appearing in almost 100 film and TV roles.

Pictured here is top model and actress, Mary Laurence "Lauren" Hutton. She was initially dismissed by many in the business because of a gap in her teeth. That beauty of hers trumped her signature gap and she landed a modeling contract with Revlon back in 1973. Which, for the record, was the biggest contract in the history of the modeling industry at that point in time.

Like many in her position, Hutton transitioned into acting. She played central roles in films such as The Gambler (1974) and American Gigolo (1980), and later she appeared on television in the series Paper Dolls and Nip/Tuck.

It’s easy to see why the beauty became an international sex symbol, but she was also a very talented photojournalist and sculptor–making her one of the highest profile European actresses of the era. In the 1970s, she achieved a scoop by gaining access to Fidel Castro for an exclusive interview. She also remained an active supporter of Italian and Italian American causes, particularly the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) all of her life. In 2008, she received the NIAF Lifetime Achievement Award at the Foundation's Anniversary Gala. Then in 2013, she sold her impressive jewelry collection and donated nearly $5 million to stem cell therapy research.

 The legendary Doris Day was a talented singer, actress, and an animal rights activist. She was once the biggest female star in the country and earned the reputation as ‘the quintessential all-American girl.’

Her film debut was Romance on the High Seas in 1948. Then from 1952 to 1953, she hosted The Doris Day Show on radio and her hit "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" made it into the classic Hitchcock thriller The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1956. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush. This is the highest civilian honor in the United States. 

Pictured here is a young Lynda Carter sunbathing back in 1971. She was just 20 years old at the time this was taken and well on her way to the role of a lifetime: Wonder Woman, which she played from 1975 to 1979. Carter was the first mainstream female superhero and quickly became a household name. She made being tough look sexy.

From there, her fame skyrocketed all the way to pop icon status. Even after her Wonder Woman days were over, she hardly retired her superhero cape. Lynda continued her battle for justice off-screen as an advocate for LGBT rights and eventually, she also joined efforts in finding the cure for cancer. 

Check out 'Sheena' and friends back in 1984. The Queen of the Jungle was played by Tanya Roberts. Born Victoria Leigh Blum, Tanya Roberts got her start as a model and seamlessly transitioned into acting and producing. She was chosen to replace Shelley Hack in the fifth season of the Charlie’s Angel’s television series in 1980. She played Kiri in the adventure film The Beastmaster back in 1982 and was then featured on the cover of Playboy to help promote the movie (the October 1982 issue). Then it was on to play Stacey Sutton in the James Bond film A View to a Kill in 1985. 

Pictured here is the sensual beauty, Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg. She remains best known for her role as Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960), but she got her start in the industry as a model. 

It wouldn’t be until the mid-50’s when she finally broke into films. The Swedish starlet and her voluptuous physique and colorful private life was a favorite among the gossip magazines. She had highly publicized romances with leading men like Frank Sinatra, Tyrone Power, Yul Brynner, Rod Taylor, and Errol Flynn. For a time, she was even publicized as "Paramount's Marilyn Monroe"

The comedy-drama television series Flying High, aired from August 28, 1978, to January 23, 1979. The main three characters, played by Kathryn Witt, Connie Sellecca, and Pat Klous, were all recruited from top New York modeling agencies. They had very specific requirements for the level of attractiveness… having any actual acting experience they were lenient on. This was meant to be just one of a number of “jiggle era” television programs a and its 2-hour pilot episode aired during the summer re-run season, so it was the most-watched prime-time show of the week. But by mid-October, it was painfully clear by the low ratings and negative reviews accusing it of trying to copy the success of Charlie's Angels that Flying High wouldn’t last. By January of 1979, it was over. 

All decked out in her animal print finest is actress and pin-up model Jayne Mansfield at the Ballyhoo Ball. She was accompanied by her husband Mickey Hargitay, who was also dressed in barely-there leopard print swimwear for the Hollywood Publicists Association-sponsored event at the Paramount Sunset Studios on October 30, 1956.

The famously provocative entertainer certainly knew how to always leave them wanting more. She was notorious for her publicity stunts and secured sex-icon status almost as soon as she broke into the industry. Although Mansfield's life ended too soon, she did see several box-office successes and she took home a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe.

After seeing her impressive performance in the Science Fiction film Logan’s Run, major television producer Aaron Spelling knew she’d be perfect in the TV series Charlie's Angels (1976). Just like that, an icon was born. The show became the most popular series on television almost immediately. These two back to back iconic projects really launched Fawcett’s career. 

The bombshell died on June 25, 2009, which coincidentally, was the same time the famed ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson died. Another strange coincidence was the fact that Fawcett died from cancer at the age of 62, which mirrored her sister’s death. Her sister Diane had also died of cancer at age 62, just eight years earlier.

Both singers were vying for the love of James Taylor but it was Carly with her breezy Boho style and natural beauty that ended up marrying him on November 3, 1972. The fellow singer-songwriters had two children together, Sarah “Sally” Maria Taylor was born in 1974 and Benjamin Simon Taylor was born in 1977, both of whom grew up to be musicians and political activists. Sadly the couple divorced in 1983.
