Clerow “Flip” Wilson, Jr. was an outrageously funny comedian and actor in his time. He was well known for his many live and television appearance during the late 1960s and 1970s. Wilson was also a regular at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y. for a time. He was also a welcome guest on The Tonight Show, Laugh-In and the Ed Sullivan Show.

Because of his television exposure, Wilson went on to host his own weekly variety show in the early 1970s. The Flip Wilson Show was an instant success with viewers and earned him a Golden Globe Award and two Emmy Awards. The Flip Wilson Show featured an impressive list of guest stars during its run. The once popular variety show was given the distinction of the highest rated show on television network at one time.
