Rockstars That Went From The Groupie Life To Family Life

Rock stars are known for very few things, their music, their lifestyle and their lovers. These men and women got fame through their musical talents and have used it to their advantage. When they were younger, they were surrounded by groupies but they've given up that lifestyle for a more domestic one. Here are some rock stars who gave up groupie life for family life.
Check out Bowie with his very first girlfriend, Dana Gillepsie. Bowie has one of the most impressive party lifestyles out of all the rockstars in history. He was rumored to had actually prowled the streets in an old ambulance, where he would pick up on his obsessed fans...and have sex with them in the van. Several previous girlfriends of Bowie recount crazy stories of tryst that include parties, and just pure hedonism.
David Bowie (2011):
Up until his death in 2016, be enjoyed a private life with his wife of 24 years, Iman. Bowie retreated from the spotlight to focus on raising their sixteen year old daughter, Alexandria.
Bill Wyman
The former Rolling Stones bass player was well known for his promiscuity. He was even ranked number 10 in the 2006 June issue of Maxim magazine about rockstars with the biggest bodycount. During his prime he said he had sex with over 1,000 women.

The famous playboy did settle down after all and married Susan Acosta (pictured above) in 1993. The 80 year old enjoys a quiet life with his wife and is battling prostate cancer.
Ringo Starr (1975)
In that year, Starr’s ten year marriage to the Beatles Manager, Maureen Cox came to an end. His repeated infidelities were cited as the reason for the divorce of the young couple.

The seventy five year old Starr is seen with his wife Barbara Bach. The two married in 1981 and celebrate thirty six years of marriage. In 2015, Starr said “There’s no escape, I think I love Barbara as much as I did when we met and I’m beyond blessed”.
Gene Simmons (1980’s):
Simmons dated many popular celebrities including American actress, Cher (pictured above). The bass guitarist is not shy about his sex life, claiming to have slept with 4,897 women.

In 2011 Simmons finally wed Shannon Lee Tweed after over twenty years of courtship. The two are seen with the adopted son Zinnah Sambolah but they have a 28 year old son and 25 year old daughter together.
Elvis Presley (1950s)
The King of Rock and Roll admitted to sleeping with thousands of women. The famous celebrity garnered the love of men and women worldwide and is regarded as one of the most influential artists in rock music.

Presley married Priscilla Wagner in 1967. When he first met her, Elvis wrote a letter to his mother saying “This is the one right here”. However, the duo divorced in 1973 but the star never remarried and died in 1977.
Kurt Cobain (1989)
The American musician created the band, Nirvana in 1987 and they soon became very popular especially after their hit song “Smells like Teen Spirit” in 1991. Cobain was highly regarded among his peers and was seen as the “spokesperson of a generation.”

This was the year that the 25 year old married fellow musician Courtney Love. The young couple experienced difficulty as Cobain struggled with the spotlight, drug abuse and depression, eventually committed suicide in 1994.

In 2017, this successful English guitarist became the only musician enlisted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. He accepted the perks of fame and admitted to a promiscuous life. “I used to identify my self esteem through sex.”

The 72 year old has two children from separate affairs he had in the 90’s. However in 2002 he married Melia Mcenery and the couples have three kids and fifteen years of marriage under their belt, despite the 33 year age difference.
Neil Peart 1980’s
It was a tragic time for Peart who became depressed and retreated from the spotlight after the sudden death of his nineteen year old daughter in 1977. She died from a car crash and her mom died ten months later from cancer.

In 2000, Peart had a chance to have a family again when he married a photographer, Carrie Nuttal. The two have a daughter (Olivia Louise) together and Peart retired from music in 2015. He spends his time writing and publishing non fiction novels.
Rod Stewart (1987)
He was quite the stud back in the day, even during his marriage to Kelly Emberg in 1983. His insatiable love for blonde women affected his marriage and the divorced in 1990 after only seven years together.

His love for blonde women remained strong and Stewart tied the knot yet again with model Penny Lancaster in 2007. He said “Penny has been an inspiration, if I had not learnt to be better by that point in my life, I was never going to.”

He battled an addition to drugs and alcohol, and has spoken about his frequent use of cocaine to cope with stress and fame. “I took as much cocaine as Whitney, it’s a miracle I’m not dead.”

Elton became sober in 1990. He soon started dating David Furnish in 1993 and they wed in 2014. In 2016, the father of two announced his plans to retire to spend more time with his family.
Midge Ure (1981)
This is another successful musician who also battled with alcohol addiction made worse by the loss of his father in 2001. He says that dealing with trauma can “push anyone over the edge.”

Pictured abode is Ure with his wife, Sheridan Forbes and his children. He has expressed gratitude for the the support of his family in helping him to overcome his addiction. However, the famous musician now suffers from hearing loss.
Bruce Springsteen (1978)
During a concert in Minnesota, Bruce jumps into the crowd to join his fans. In that same year, Bruce and the E Street Band held ten shows in five nights that was later regarded as Rolling Stones 50 Moments that Changed Rock and Roll.

After a ten year break from music in the 1980’s, Bruce returned to the business and has been active since. During the hiatus he relocated his family to New Jersey, to raise his children away from the spotlight.
John Lennon (1964)
He was the co-founder of the iconic rock band, the Beatles. In the picture above Lennon signs the autograph of adoring fans during the Beatles’ visit to Paris. In 2008, he was ranked as the fifth greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone.

In 1978, his son Ben Young was born with cerebal palsy. Young disengaged from the music industry to focus on his son’s well-being. Young’s two other children, Amber and Zeki, who suffer from epilepsy and cerebal palsy respectively.
Billy Joel (1970)
Joel battled depression and attempted suicide more than once. He first did so after his romantic relationship with his colleague’s wife was revealed. He had also made a second attempt in 1970 but was ultimately rescued and sent for treatment.

A few years before in 2009, Joel’s daughter Alexia also overdosed on medication but survived the suicide attempt. Joel took a short break from music to focus on his family. He later recorded the song” You’re only Human” to deter teen suicide.
