Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis: A Class Act
By | December 15, 2017
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a class act from beginning to end. I don’t think anyone would argue that statement. She was more than just a one-time First Lady of The United States of America. Jackie was a positive and sophisticated role model to women both then and now. She carried herself with poise and dignity.
It is not uncommon for the First Lady of the United States, whoever, she may be at the time, to be in the public spotlight. Let’s face it, even if the President “screws the pooch,” and his ratings go right down the tubes, the First Lady only has to show up and look good to save the day.
Jackie had an air about her that just screamed, “class”! She may have been the one that set the bar for First Lady fashion going forward. She had a signature look that was always perfectly coordinated and form-fitting. She was often seen in public with tailored suits, beautiful, stylish hats and those signature white gloves. There was nothing unintentional about it. She knew exactly what she was doing.
The conservative, tailored look with the hats and gloves was Jackie’s signature style. It was much like her First Lady uniform. She knew her role as the wife of the President and did her best to make him look good. She was very good at her job.
Both on duty and off, Jackie had a look of sophistication. She made sailing on the water and even just sitting on the patio look glamorous. She had a fashion sense that seemed to come naturally. Even when lounging, Jackie was dressed to the nines. She could have worn a dress made out of a grocery bag and it would have looked stunning on her.
After J.F.K. was assassinated, Jackie regrouped and went on with her life. Eventually, she married Aristotle Onassis. She never left the public spotlight and America just loved to love her! Of course, being the lady that she was, she humored her admirers and never shied away from the camera. She was often seen in a less conservative dress and felt free to express her more laid-back style. After all, she really was just an ordinary woman… in her eyes.
Jackie aged gracefully and always carried herself with poise and confidence. She was known for her fashion style to always be current. Her nearly flawless figure allowed her to wear everything and anything including bright colors, animal prints and other patterns.
Black tie or casual dress, Jackie pulled it off, flawlessly. She was chic, feminine and alluring and didn’t mind expressing herself. As any woman will tell you, accessories are every bit as important as the clothing itself. Jackie never missed an opportunity to show off her excellent accessorizing skills with jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, hats, gloves and scarves.
Jackie was a lady through and through. Her style definitely made a statement and added to her appeal, but truth be told, her glamourous look wouldn’t have meant nearly as much if not for her stunning personality and gorgeous, friendly smile.
Jackie Kennedy Onassis was a role model to many young women over the years. She has been gone for 23 years now and to this day, women still admire and try to emulate her style. She probably never fully realized what a positive influence she was.
