Bewitched ran from 1964 to 1972, it was the longest running paranormal television series of the era. It even ran longer than The Munsters, The Addams Family, and its more direct competitor, I Dream of Jeannie.
The premise is simple enough; an average man falls in love with whom he believes is an average woman only to find out after they've gotten married that she's actually a witch. In the literal flying broomstick, pointed hat, and hocus-pocus sense of the word witch. Darrin and Samantha Stephens decided to live as an average couple, meaning absolutely no magic is allowed. This simple promise proves impossible to uphold and hijinks ensue.
Elizabeth Montgomery bewitched audiences as Samantha Stephens, an extraordinary woman attempting to be ordinary. She marries a mortal man and promises to keep her magic powers under wraps, which proves to be much harder than anticipated. With an adorable twitch of the nose, she’s able to tackle more than just her suburban housewife duties.
In addition to starring in the show, Elizabeth Montgomery also took on the role of Samantha’s sassy cousin Serena. Montgomery seamlessly transitioned between the raven-haired witch and the loveable Samantha for 24 episodes. She received 5 Emmy nominations as well as 4 Golden Globe nominations during the Run of Bewitched.
